Consultant hand & upper limb surgeon
My name is Lisa Tourret and I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in upper limb and hand/wrist injuries and conditions. I offer consultations, advice and treatments for shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand within the Sussex region – and I am based in the Brighton and Hove area of East Sussex. Please feel free to browse the following pages to find out more information about the conditions I treat and the operations I offer.
I see and treat all aspects of musculo-skeletal conditions affecting the upper limb (from the shoulder to the hand), whether inflammatory, wear and tear arthritis or sports injury related.
I and am happy to see either self-pay or insured patients and I hold regular clinics at Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital (Woodingdean) and The Montefiore Hospital (Hove) on most Monday and Thursday afternoons, respectively.
In the clinic when we first meet, I will take a history and examine you. It may be possible to carry out some treatment in the clinic setting, such as an injection into a joint or soft tissue. Sometimes it may be necessary to carry out further investigations to help plan treatment, such as x-rays, scans or nerve studies and these are discussed and organised by me at our initial consultation. A new patient consultation will take approximately 30 minutes.
If surgery is necessary, I will arrange a date that is mutually convenient and arrange an anaesthetist if a general anaesthetic or sedation is required. Surgery will take place on site at either The Montefiore Hospital or the Nuffield Brighton Hospital.
A more detailed list of conditions I treat can be found on the Patient Information section.

In addition to my NHS practice, I run a Private Practice, and can see and treat patients at either Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital (based in Woodingdean), or The Montefiore Hospital (based in Hove)
I hold regular New Patient and Review Clinic appointments on Monday afternoons (2-5pm) at the Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital (Woodingdean) and on Thursday afternoons (2-5pm): The Montefiore Hospital (Hove)
The cost of a New Patient Appointment/Assessment is £200.
The cost of a Review Appointment is £100.
I am happy to see both privately funded (self-pay) patients and those covered by insurance companies/third parties.
I am fee assured, which means I work within both the limits set by most major insurance companies.

How much will my treatment cost?
New Patient Consultation (30 minute appointment, including examination and full history): £200
Review Consultation (15 minute appointment, price per each subsequent review): £100
(The above excludes any imaging/diagnostic testing, which is charged independently by the respective Hospital/third party)
I'm insured, will my insurance cover me?
I am recognised by, and have Provider Status with, all the major Insurance Companies – and I am fee assured. This means that if you are insured by a particular Insurance Company (for example, Aviva, AXA PPP, Bupa, Simply Health, WPA, etc), I will only charge the agreed fee set by that Insurer* *Please note, however, that this will exclude any excesses on your policy/insurance, or instances where there is a ceiling on the total value remaining on your policy, which falls below the agreed fee paid by your Insurer. Please check with your insurer for further details/clarification.
I need surgery - how do I get authorisation from my insurer?
If surgery is necessary, you will be advised of the relevant procedure and code – you should then contact your Insurer to enquire if your policy provides adequate cover and to request that they authorise the funding (for all the costs incurred by the Hospital, Surgeon and Anaesthetist, if applicable). Most Insurers also make their fee schedules available on their websites, outlining the maximum amount payable per procedure. I'm paying for my own treatment, what will it cost?
For "Pay For Yourself"/Self-Funding patients, the following are guidelines of Fixed Price Costs for various procedures. These prices are "all inclusive" and include all post-operative treatment. You will always receive a written quotation for the full package price, for any surgical treatment, prior to any procedure being arranged. There will be no hidden costs.
